Explosive Reveal: Why Sister Sage Assisted Homelander After Betrayal in ‘The Boys’ Season 4—Explained by Star!

Susan Heyward of The Boys explains why her character, Sister Sage, aids Homelander despite his treachery in the season 4 finale.

Homelander abandoned Sage after being angry with her, not obtaining the results he intended, and being influenced by Firecracker, despite his earlier pledge to listen to her and trust in her plan. This did not deter Sage in the season 4 finale of The Boys, as she proceeded to carry out her plan and assist him in obtaining what he desired.

In an interview with TVLine, Heyward was asked why Sage did this despite Homelander’s treachery, and her response was “To see if I could” when Homelander questioned her motivations. The actor compared Sage’s point of view to her own personal experiences and described how she incorporated that into her portrayal of the character. She also discussed Sage and hinted at what she can expect in season 5. Look at Heyward’s reaction below:

I do resonate with the experience of being underestimated. I deeply resonate with the experience of being written off and people having very low expectations of you. So there’s something satisfying about having that moment for her. I think of how long she’s been alone, been isolated, been doing research and learning things, and going, “Oh, I could, I could.” How many times did she try to have a voice, to be heard, to be a positive addition to society, and how many times was she shot down? I definitely resonate with that on a personal level, and I think it puts the story in a really interesting place. It’s like how much of an agent of chaos is she? There’s always a question of her ulterior motive. So I think it’s an exciting place to kind of leave us.

What Will Sage’s Role Be In The Boys Season 5?

She May Be Even More Dangerous Than Homelander.

“Sage does not like Homelander, but he is a useful tool to bring her theories to life and see if they work in reality on a global scale.”

While Homelander is the face of the United States’ new fascist rule, with a super-army at his disposal, Sage remains the mastermind behind it all. Homelander would never have arrived with President Calhoun as his puppet if not for Sage’s meticulous preparation. The Boys season 5 will see Sage’s scheme continue with phase two, the contents of which are unknown even to Homelander, and will most likely destroy the globe, depending on Sage’s true motivations.

Sage will most likely preserve and prolong the authority possessed by Homelander and his army of supes, allowing her to destroy the civilization that has repeatedly ignored her. Sage dislikes Homelander, but he is a vital instrument for bringing her theories to life and seeing if they function in practice on a global scale. She upended hundreds of years of democracy in the United States as a kind of retaliation, making it all the more horrifying to consider what she would now attempt to do globally.

Susan Heyward explains that Sister Sage’s motives stem from being underestimated and overlooked, leading her to leverage chaos to prove herself.

The Boys, notably Billy Butcher and his obsessive need for vengeance, will continue to consider Homelander as their major enemy, the one they must eliminate in order to restore human civilization. What they don’t realize yet is that removing Sage is just as crucial because without her, Homelander would lack the insight and adaptability required to preserve his dominance on a national and global scale. In season 5 of The Boys, Sage poses a threat comparable to Homelander.
