Ryan Reynolds celebrated his 48th birthday alongside with wife Blake Lively and their kids James, Inez and Betty on Broadway to see & Juliet.
Ryan Reynolds loves a classic story with a twist.
After all, the Spirited actor celebrated his 48th birthday on Broadway to watch & Juliet Oct. 23 with wife Blake Lively and their three eldest kids James, 9, Inez, 7, and Betty, 4, E! News can confirm.
Ryan and Blake also posed for photos with the actors backstage, where the Gossip Girl alum shared insight into the occasion.
“I don’t know what to get him for his birthday?” Blake told the cast, who star in a reimagination of Romeo and Juliet where Juliet survives, per People. “What do you get him for his birthday? I know he loves musicals, I love musicals, the kids love musicals. So it felt like the right choice!”
Blake, who also shares 19-month-old son Olin with Ryan, noted how their daughters adored the show. “The kids want to come tomorrow,” she told the cast. “They think they’re coming back every day.”
But the It Ends With Us star isn’t the only person in the Deadpool actor’s life that makes his special day one to remember. In fact, his longtime pal Rob McElhenney and he try to one-up one another on every birthday. This year, the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star renamed all the animals for adoption—including dogs, cats, horses and pigs—at the Best Friends Animal Society after Ryan.
“I’ve been thinking that there’s no better gift for Ryan than unconditional love,” his Wrexham Football Club co-owner quipped in an Oct. 23 Instagram video. “But if any of us try to give him that unconditional love, we’ll be slapped with a restraining order by a very powerful Hollywood attorney. However, if everybody had their own Ryan Reynolds, they could shower him with love and affection. Wouldn’t the world be a better place?”
As for what Ryan did for Rob on his birthday? A Titanic-inspired semi-nude sketch of him donning a heart-shaped necklace, just like Rose (Kate Winslet) in the 1997 film. It turns out that the Proposal actor began the tradition in 2021 at the Wrexham stadium in Wales, UK.
“A few years ago on April 14, which is my birthday, I just went on Instagram and my wife Kaitlin Olsen screamed from upstairs, ‘Check your Instagram!'” Rob explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in April. “I see that Ryan had done this video of this dedication that he had made at the stadium in Wales. The Robert Lucinda McElhenny—which is not my middle name—Memorial Urinal.”
“He put a plaque next to the urinal and now anybody can go there and do their business on my plaque, my face,” he continued. “He said ‘Happy Birthday’ at the end of it. So, I had to try and top that the following year.”
In 2022, Rob opted for a blimp with a photo of Ryan’s burned face from Deadpool to fly across Wrexham.
“A hideous but surprisingly inexpensive way for the world to finally see Ryan Reynolds as he’s meant to be seen,” he joked on YouTube that October as he debuted the balloon. “And so, we christen this flying Ryan face for the world to see.”
