‘It was awesome. We didn’t want it to end. It was great,’ he told Us Weekly.
The 34-year-old actor, who originally starred alongside Gomez as sibling duo Justin and Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place from 2007 to 2012, was full of praise for his co-star, noting, ‘She’s so good. She has such a quick wit that’s only gotten stronger.’
He added that they filmed ‘a couple scenes that I think will choke up the original fans…they’re really touching, and they went really well. So, I’m excited for you to see it.’
The revival will also see David DeLuise reprise his role as Jerry Russo, the father of Alex and Justin.
‘It was a joy,’ Henrie said, adding, ‘We hope to have everyone back throughout the lifetime of the show, and if it’s up to me, as often as possible ‘cause they’re just such a wonderful addition.’
The title Wizards Beyond Waverly Place was officially unveiled by Selena at the ABC and Disney Upfronts event in May, where she expressed her enthusiasm: ‘Sometimes, something magical happens when you do get to go home again.’
Following her announcement, Disney shared first-look images of the new series, showing Gomez and Henrie back in character as the iconic Russo siblings.
