Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s romantic-thriller ‘Aitraaz’ to get a sequel; Subhash Ghai says he “loved the script” – report

It’s been two decades since Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s ‘Aitraaz’ hit the screens. The romantic thriller broke new ground in Bollywood by exploring themes of ambition, power dynamics, and consent. Helmed by the director duo of Abbas-Mustan, it was a gripping love triangle laced with suspense and drama.

In his latest interview with Hindustan Times, Subhash Ghai, the producer of ‘Aitraaz,’ has revealed that its second instalment is in the scripting stage.

Subhash Ghai confirms ‘Aitraaz 2’ is in scripting stage

Subhash Ghai is an industry veteran and a well-known filmmaker. He was also the producer of ‘Aitraaz.’ The ‘Pardes’ director has now revealed that he will team up with ‘OMG 2’ director Amit Rai for the second instalment of ‘Aitraaz.’

Talking about the script of the potential sequel, Ghai said, “I’ve heard a fantastic script from Amit Rai, the writer-director of ‘Oh My God 2,’ which has been written as ‘Aitraaz 2’ now. We are getting so many calls from various studios that they are interested in making the film. And I must say that Amit again has a big hit script with him at the moment. I really loved it.”

For the unversed, ‘Aitraaz’ was a unique Bollywood thriller that aimed to deal with the bold issue of 𝓈ℯ𝓍ual harassment in the workplace. It managed to convey its message while comprising the tropes of a mainstream Bollywood feature.

The bold theme of ‘Aitraaz’ and its impact

Talking about the second ‘Aitraaz,’ Ghai divulged, “The subject belongs to Amit Rai. He has written another bold issue about today’s 𝓈ℯ𝓍 life with new values and new school of thoughts coming in. You can’t expect it to just be a social drama; it has to have some strong and high notes. We are excited to start the film.”

Few know that Priyanka Chopra’s career skyrocketed following her bold portrayal of Sonia Roy in the film. Addressing the same and discussing a potential female lead, the ‘Trimurti’ director continued, “We do have a wish list, but let’s see who will be finalised. It will be a bold role again, which I am sure will get a lot of awards for the actor, as it did for Priyanka.”
