Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s love story is one of a kind.

The twosome first got acquainted in September 2016 after the Jonas Brothers member slid into Chopra Jonas’ Twitter DMs. They continued to text from there and later connected in person at the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty, where Jonas got down on one knee to show his admiration for his future wife.

Us Weekly broke the news in May 2018 that the duo were officially dating. At the time, an insider revealed that they were “a good match and they are both interested in each other.”

Jonas proposed to Chopra Jonas on her birthday just two months later, and the couple tied the knot in two separate ceremonies in India that December.

“He swept me off my feet,” Chopra Jonas wrote in her 2021 memoir, Unfinished, about their whirlwind courtship. “Once we started dating, I felt like I was being carried by a giant unstoppable wave.”

Still, she admitted that she was “in shock” when he got down on one knee — but she was also excited to start their lives together. “Once I’d said yes, we stayed up until 8:30 in the morning FaceTiming our families and friends,” she wrote in her book. “Then the wedding planning essentially began.”

The duo announced via Instagram in January 2022 that they welcomed their first child.

“We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢 via surrogate,” a statement on their respective social media pages read. “We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much ❤️.”

In April, Us confirmed their daughter’s name — Malti Marie Chopra Jonas.

September 2016

Jonas revealed during an interview with Vogue in November 2018 that he first reached out to Chopra Jonas via her Twitter DMs. “I’m hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet,” Jonas wrote to his future love on September 8, 2016. “She responded day of with a message that said, ‘My team can read this. Why don’t you just text me.’”

February 2017

The duo had a texting relationship for months before meeting up multiples times in early 2017, including at the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty and at Chopra’s home.

“We hung out for a couple of hours,” Chopra Jonas told Vogue in November 2018. “He patted my back before he left.”

Jonas added: “There was no kiss. There was nothing. She’s still upset about that. … Your mom was in the house! I thought it was a respectful first night.”

The singer may have kept things “respectful,” but he also was falling for Chopra Jonas, telling the magazine that he got down on one knee at the Vanity Fair party. “I put my drink down,” he recalled. “Get on one knee — this is in front of a bunch of people — and I say, ‘You’re real. Where have you been all my life?’ Like, loud.”

May 2017

The couple were first spotted together when they walked the red carpet at the Met Gala in New York City. He sported a black and white tuxedo, while she wore a trench coat with a long train. “We were both wearing Ralph Lauren, and we decided to go together,” Chopra Jonas later explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live! before insisting that their relationship was purely platonic at the time.

May 2018

One year after the Met Gala, Us exclusively revealed that Jonas and Chopra Jonas had started dating. “It’s brand new,” a source told Us. Another insider noted that Jonas, who is 10 years younger than Chopra Jonas, “loves women who are mature like him, [which] usually means he dates a little outside of his age bracket.”

June 2018

The pair exchanged flirty comments on Instagram. After Chopra Jonas shared a photo of herself having dinner at In-N-Out with two friends, Jonas commented, “That smile,” adding a heart emoji. Three days later, he posted a video of himself with a koala bear at a zoo in Australia. “Who is cuter? Lol,” Chopra Jonas wrote.

That same month, Jonas brought Chopra Jonas as his date to his cousin Rachel Tamburelli’s wedding in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The duo walked arm-in-arm as they arrived at the beachside ceremony. The next morning, they had brunch with his family and other guests.

They later flew to Chopra Jonas’ native India, where Jonas met his then-girlfriend’s mother, Madhu, and attended a pre-engagement party for businessman Akash Ambani.

July 2018

The pair were spotted wearing matching gold bands on their right hands during their trip to Mumbai. “They are obviously serious enough to the point that they are meeting each other’s families, which is clearly a huge deal,” a source told Us at the time. A second insider predicted, “No one would be surprised if Nick proposed to her in the next year.”

The couple later enjoyed a romantic double date with Nick’s brother Joe Jonas and Joe’s then-fiancée, Sophie Turner, at 34 Mayfair in London. Nick and Chopra Jonas held hands as they left the restaurant. Chopra Jonas also celebrated her birthday at the hotel Chiltern Firehouse in London with Nick by her side.

Us confirmed that same month that Nick popped the question to Chopra Jonas, much to her surprise. “She was thrilled,” a source told Us. “Nick really loves her. They want to get married very soon.”

August 2018

Nick and his parents, Denise and Kevin Jonas Sr., flew to India to meet Chopra Jonas’ family. “It’s a tradition to go and meet the family before the wedding,” a source exclusively told Us of their visit. “Priyanka wants an Indian wedding. He’s super supportive of her and he’s thrilled.”

The lovebirds made their engagement official with a traditional Roka engagement ceremony, an Indian service that takes place before a wedding to signify the unification of the bride and groom’s family members and friends. Both Nick and Chopra Jonas’ parents attended the big event, which the couple documented with a sweet photo posted to their respective Instagram accounts on August 18. “Future Mrs. Jonas. My heart. My love,” Nick wrote, with Chopra Jonas adding, “Taken … With all my heart and soul.”

September 2018

The duo shared photos from their visit to Oklahoma, where they got down and dirty in matching camouflage ensembles. “Ranch life,” Chopra Jonas captioned her Instagram pics, while Nick wrote, “Out on the ranch.”

September 2018

A source told Us that “the wedding is coming soon,” adding that the couple “really want to blend wedding traditions from both of their cultures that are important to them.” The insider noted that Chopra Jonas “is having a really good time planning the wedding because it’s a mix of Indian and American styles and customs, which she knows so much about.”

October 2018

A source told Us that despite not being married yet, the happy couple “keep talking about starting a family together,” adding “they have amazing chemistry and can’t wait to have kids.” The insider noted that the two “are going to wait till after the wedding to start trying.” Chopra Jonas revealed that she has babies on the brain during an interview with E! News in mid-October. “I just have a few of my friends who are having babies right now and I’m like, ‘God, I need to catch up!’” she said, a nod to pal Meghan Markle’s first pregnancy with Prince Harry.

November 2018

A group of gal pals — including Chopra Jonas’ future sister-in-law Turner — honored the bride-to-be with a bachelorette party in Amsterdam. (Chopra Jonas and Turner even called each other “#TheJSisters.”) A week prior, Kelly Ripa, Lupita Nyong’o and other celebs celebrated Chopra Jonas at a bridal shower at Tiffany’s Blue Box Café in New York City.

December 2018

The twosome tied the knot at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. The couple were joined by Joe and Turner, Kevin Jonas and his wife, Danielle, the groom’s youngest brother, Frankie, and his parents, Kevin and Denise. Chopra Jonas’ former Quantico costar Yasmine Al Massri was also spotted during the pre-wedding ceremonies along with Chord Overstreet and Jack McBrayer.

Nick shared his own tribute, captioning a photo of the pair, “This beautiful woman and I went on our first date two years ago today. It has been the best two years of my life, and to think I am lucky enough to get to spend the rest of my life with her is such an incredible blessing. I love you babe. Happy two years.”

Nick showered his wife with love on her 38th birthday on July 18. “I could stare into your eyes forever,” he captioned a photo that showed her sitting on his lap. “I love you 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢. You are the most thoughtful, caring and wonderful person I have ever met. I am so grateful we found one another. Happy birthday beautiful.”

On the two-year anniversary of their proposal, Chopra Jonas posted a sweet mirror selfie that showed her husband kissing her on the cheek. “To the greatest joy of my life. 2 years ago on this day you asked me to marry you,” she wrote. “I may have been speechless then but I say yes every moment of everyday since. In the most unprecedented time you made this weekend so incredibly memorable. Thank you for thinking of me all the time. I am the luckiest girl in the world! I love you @nickjonas.”

In response, Nick wrote: “Thank you for saying yes. I love you beautiful.”

“So grateful you were born. Happy birthday my love. @nickjonas,” Chopra Jonas gushed in a loving Instagram post on her husband’s 28th birthday. She shared a sweet video montage of some of her favorite moments with Nick, including footage of the pair dancing together on a stone patio.

On their second wedding anniversary, the couple took to Instagram to commemorate the occasion with sweet tribute posts. Chopra Jonas shared a photo of the duo walking hand in hand, writing: “Happy 2 year anniversary to the love of my life. Always by my side. My strength. My weakness. My all. I love you @nickjonas.”

Sharing several photos via Instagram from the band’s Arizona dates, the couple posed for an intimate black-and-white snap from backstage. In another snap, Chopra Jonas shared a “photo dump” from the Arizona excursion.

For Nick’s 29th birthday on September 16, Chopra Jonas celebrated the “kindest most compassionate loving person I know” with a surprise birthday party that left the guest of honor in awe. “She surprised me for my birthday,” Nick shared via Instagram. “She’s the best.”

Chopra Jonas poked fun at her hubby during Netflix’s Jonas Brothers Family Roast. “I’m from India, a country rich in culture, in music, in entertainment,” she joked. “So clearly the Jonas Brothers didn’t make it over there.”

She later reflected on the difficulties of a long-distance marriage as Nick toured and she filmed a series in the U.K. in 2021.

“We didn’t have a dramatic separation but because he was in and out, we had to be really careful. He had to quarantine, I had to quarantine whenever we saw each other at that time. And that’s usually not conducive to a production schedule because you don’t really have much time. You have, like, two days off,” she said on the InStyle‘s “Ladies First With Laura Brown” podcast. “It was all really tricky but we managed. He flew down a bunch of times, I flew down a couple of times. My mom came and stayed with me for almost five months, which was really nice.”

She added that the pair “talk all the time” when they aren’t together. “We know each other’s hearts and we prioritize each other in everything that we do. We’ve had individual careers and we’re both very clear about never interfering in each other’s professional lives because we’re always partners and assets. We’ll have an opinion on each other’s things, we’ll be each other champions but those decisions are predominantly for both of us to take, because we’ve built our careers by ourselves for such a long time,” she explained. “But I think at the same time, it’s very important to keep a check on another person’s heart and how they’re feeling. And I have to say, my husband’s amazing at doing that. Like I said, this year was hard for me being in London. He would just drop everything — come in for even, like a day — just to have dinner with me and fly back. Stuff like that, you just have to prioritize each other and then everything feels right.”

Nick admitted that he needed some liquid courage before proposing to his wife. “I wanted to propose like, the day after her birthday — birthday was on the 18th, I proposed on the 19th, but I just did it at basically midnight to make it two separate days,” Nick shared during an On Air With Ryan Seacrest interview. “At that point, we’d had a had a bottle of wine, so I was a little loose and I was feeling — feeling good.”

During an interview, Chopra Jonas gushed about her husband’s presence in her life, telling British Vogue, “He’s a wise man beyond his years. I get affirmations from him all the time, to remind me of my value when I forget or when I get insecure. He just sees through the fog for me. He sees the best in people.”

She also revealed that she and Nick have matching tattoos that were inspired by Nick’s sweet proposal. “I have a check and a box behind my ears,” she explained. “My husband has them on his arms because when he proposed, he asked me, that I checked all his boxes, and would I check another one.”

Later that month, Nick gave a shout-out to his wife when he got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “To my beautiful wife, you are the calm in the crazy, the rock in the storm, and I love being married to you,” he said. “It is the greatest gift. And I love being a parent with you.”

Chopra Jonas revealed her husband’s first time seeing her was on TV during her Miss World competition.

“That’s a crazy story. When I was 17, actually when I was 18, I had just turned 18, I won the Miss World pageant,” she told Jennifer Hudson on her eponymous talk show. “My mother-in-law one day was like, ‘I remember watching you when you won.’ I was like, ‘There’s no way,’ and she was like, ‘I remember it so clearly because it was November, Nick was on some Broadway show at 7 years old, his brother was on some Broadway show at 8 or 9,’ and she said, ‘I remember this clearly because Kevin Sr.,’ my father-in-law, loves watching pageants. And he, I remember, was watching it and Nick came and sat down and watched you win.’”

She quipped: “Like that was 22 years ago or something. He was 7, I was 17. And he was sitting there, and he was watching.”
