The 2025 Oscars set the internet ablaze on Sunday night as there were shock wins, snubs and outfit choices on the biggest night in film. Yet many of the viral moments weren’t related to the wins themselves, with the guests’ behaviour resulting in plenty of hilarious instant memes.

Host Conan O’Brien poked fun at many of the guests, including the likes of Drake and Adam Sandler – causing the latter to storm out in one shock moment. Meanwhile, when the cameras weren’t rolling, the star-studded audience were letting loose, getting up to dance and catching up with one another.

O’Brien apologized as Sandler reiterated that he was leaving, adding, ‘I have to,’ as some in the crowd shouted, ‘No’ to try and get him to stay. The funnyman insisted, ‘No, it’s not you, it’s him,’ while pointing at the Oscar host on stage, as O’Brien was caught laughing. ‘You caused this!’ he said to O’Brien, who tried to stifle another laugh, as Sandler gave the Oscar crowd a special invitation. ‘You are all welcome to join me for a game of five-on-five basketball at Veteran Park tonight. Midnight tip-off. The guy from Nosferatu, he’s on my team,’ Sandler joked.

He then approached Oscar nominee Timothee Chalamet and said, ‘And one more thing, CHALAMET!’ while giving him a hug before leaving to applause. ‘Oh my God, thank you, Adam,’ O’Brien said as Sandler left, before continuing his monologue.

Let it out.’  Taking to their feet, the audience obliged, showcasing their best dance moves until the cameras started rolling again and they returned to their seats to watch the show.

Fashion fans were quick to slam Timothée Chalamet on Sunday night after he made his debut at the 2025 Oscars in a butter-yellow suit. Chalamet, who was up for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, came to the awards wearing a custom leather two-piece by Givenchy.

The suit featured loose-fitting pants and a cropped jacket, which the star paired with a matching silk button down shirt. Instead of a tie or bowtie, Chalamet wore a gold necklace, and tied everything together with a pair of shiny black dress shoes.

Oscars viewers were quick to rate the speeches during the ceremony using John Lithgow’s face. During his speech, Conan O’Brien warned the winners that ‘if your acceptance speech goes too long, we’ll cut to John Lithgow in the audience looking, not angry, but slightly disappointed.’

As a result, viewers at home were quick to tweet an image of Lithgow’s face when they weren’t a fan of the speeches, notably when the Emilia Pérez songwriter began to sing during her acceptance speech.

Garfield, who looked stylish in a brown tux with a lustrous satin shirt, turned toward Goldie at the microphone and held her hand between his as he shared his sweet praise.

Hawn, whose face crumpled up as she tried to hold back her tears, responded: ‘Thank you so much, that really touches me.’

While many were touched by the couple’s sweet moment, RuPaul’s Drag Race star Katya thought the pair’s chemistry would work in a different way on screen.

Last month, Drake found himself being mocked on the global stage when rival Kendrick Lamar performed his chart-topping diss track Not Like Us at the Super Bowl.

And the Canadian rapper was the butt of the joke yet again on Sunday when host Conan O’Brien referenced the pair’s feud, noting that Drake was called a ‘pedophile’ in the diss track.

During the Super Bowl Kendrick censored himself at the moment he would normally have called Drake a ‘pedophile,’ possibly to avoid potential legal action.

‘Well, we’re halfway through the show,’ O’Brien began innocently enough after a commercial break, ‘which means it’s time for Kendrick Lamar to come out and call Drake a pedophile.’

The joke instantly got a cheer from one well-placed woman in the audience, as well of plenty of laughter, along with a small smattering of groans.

Conan paused for a moment before adding, ‘Don’t worry, I’m lawyered up.’

The 58-year-old actress, who won her Oscar in 2002 for Monster’s Ball, grabbed Brody and planted a shocking kiss on his lips as soon as they came face-to-face again on the Academy Awards red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

But as the star was walking up the steps to the stage he turned around, took his gum out of his mouth and threw it to girlfriend and Harvey Weinstein’s ex Georgina Chapman, 48 – much to viewers’ disgust.

An awkward exchange between Selena Gomez and Samuel L Jackson was caught by a lip reader as the directors of the documentary No Other Land gave a speech about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during the Oscars.

Gomez, 32, and Jackson, 76, presented the best documentary award to the four activists who made the movie, two of them Israeli and two Palestinian.

No Other Land is fiercely critical of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, and stars two of its directors – Palestinian Basel Adra and Israeli Yuval Abraham.

The two men delivered impassioned speeches from the Oscars stage denouncing the displacement of the Palestinians, as well as Israel’s assault on Gaza in the wake of the October 7 attack by Hamas in 2023.

However many Oscars viewers had their eyes trained on Gomez and Jackson, who were spotted chatting uncomfortably onstage as the directors spoke.

Some social media users looked askance at the exchange and felt Jackson and Gomez were being disrespectful to the filmmakers, particularly in light of the gravity of the issues being discussed.

However, expert Nicola Hickling of Lipreader LIMITED later told DailyMail.com what the celebrities were saying to one another in the background of the political moment.

While Abraham was wrapping up, Jackson allegedly told Gomez: ‘He made that speech very political,’ and she purportedly replied: ‘He did, yes,’ per Hickling.

Gomez had a faint smile on her face while Jackson talked to her, and after she gave him her response, Jackson was seen laughing.

During a commercial break, the 27-year-old reality star’s Oscar-nominated boyfriend Timothée Chalamet hugged Sir Elton John inside the Dolby Theatre before turning around to introduce the music legend to her.

For some reason, Kylie decided to hold court front row rather than stand up and greet the Elton, who chivalrously kissed her extended right hand.

Morgan Freeman gets emotional

Morgan Freeman paid an emotional tribute to Gene Hackman during the 2025 Oscars In Memoriam segment – days after the icon’s death aged 95.

Freeman, 87, who starred alongside double Oscar winner Hackman in Under Suspicion and Unforgiven, lauded his friend and co-star as he took to the stage.

The bodies of Oscar-winner Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 64, were found partially mummified at their $3.3 million Santa Fe mansion, with pills strewn in their bathroom on Wednesday. Their causes of death remain a mystery.

Freeman said: ‘Well, this week, our community lost a giant, and I lost a dear friend, Gene Hackman. I had the pleasure of working alongside Gene on two films, Unforgiven and Under suspicion.

‘And like everyone who ever shared a scene with him, I learned he was a generous performer, a man whose gifts elevated everyone’s work. He received two Oscars, but more importantly, he won the hearts of film lovers all over the world.

‘Gene always said, “I don’t think about legacy. I just hope people remember me as someone who tried to do good work.”

‘I think I speak for us all when I say, Gene, you will be remembered for that, and so much more. Rest in peace, my friend.’

Freeman and Gene acted together in the 1992 classic film, which earned the late actor his second Oscar award.

Eight years later, they once again joined forces on 2000 thriller, Under Suspicion — one if his final films before stepping away from Hollywood in 2004.

Ethan Slater’s painful red carpet interview

Ethan Slater’s interview with Access Hollywood was branded a ‘hard watch’ by some viewers after he answered a question about his girlfriend, Ariana Grande.

While on the carpet, he chatted with the outlet, and was asked about Grande, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Wicked.

‘How’s your girl feeling tonight?’ the reporter asked the star, which was captured in a clip posted to TikTok.

In response, he chuckled and said, ‘Oh, you mean Ariana? She’s doing great.’
