Drake Eyes World Cup Stage – A New Rivalry with Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl?

Drake is being teased as the headline act for next year’s first-ever World Cup final halftime show in a move that could rival Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl performance.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino sat down for an interview with Good Day New York on Thursday (March 6) to discuss next year’s World Cup which will be hosted by the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

During the interview, co-host Rosanna Scotto said it would be a “great idea” to get Drake to perform at the planned halftime show — an NFL staple but a first for the historic soccer tournament.

In response, Infantino joked: “So we can create a bit of a rivalry?” referencing the 6 God’s beef with Kendrick Lamar.

He added: “That’s a good idea. Actually, Drake was with us when we announced the host cities. I should have his number saved somewhere.”

While Kendrick Lamar performed at the Super Bowl in front of a record-breaking audience of 133.5 million viewers in America, the World Cup has a greater global audience, with a peak of 1.4 billion people watching the final in 2022.

Drake has yet to comment on the speculation, though the 2026 World Cup final is just over a year away, being held on July 19, 2026 at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.

It was recently announced that the World Cup will have its first-ever halftime show next year.

In an Instagram post earlier this week, Infantino said: “I can confirm the first ever half-time show at a FIFA World Cup final in New York New Jersey, in association with Global Citizen.

“This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world.”

It was also confirmed that British rock band Coldplay will be involved in the planning of the show, but it was not revealed whether they will perform at the event.

Infantino said that the band’s front man, Chris Martin, and their manager, Phil Harvey, will help “finalize a list” of artists who could headline the historic event.

If Drake was selected for the sporting spectacle, it would represent a significant win after a bruising defeat in his feud with Kendrick Lamar.
