According to reports, the Seoul Songpa Police Station decided on March 26 to suspend the investigation into the Japanese women.
Under Korean law, if the suspect’s whereabouts are unknown, they have been abroad for over two months, or there are other reasons such as serious illness that make it impossible to investigate the suspect or witnesses for a significant period, the police can suspend the case.
According to police and other sources, Japanese woman A is currently unable to appear for questioning but may be able to do so in a few months. The whereabouts of another Japanese woman, B, have not yet been confirmed.
The incident occurred on June 13, 2024 during the “2024 Festa” event “Jin’s Greetings” held at Jamsil Arena in Songpa-gu, Seoul, where Jin held a free hug event with about 1,000 fans. During this event, one fan kissed Jin on the cheek, causing controversy over forced indecent act.
On June 19 of the same year, the police received a complaint from a netizen accusing the fan of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes. On February 27 this year, the police officially booked A and others under suspicion of 𝓈ℯ𝓍ual molestation in a public gathering and began an investigation.
