Dancing with the Stars’ Hayley Erbert Hough and Derek Hough can attest: Life with three cats and two dogs can get messy fast. So they called in seasoned professionals — the Pottery Barn design team — to completely revamp their living space as they prepare to welcome their first child.

“We love natural organic materials like wood, stone, different fabrics — things that just feel grounded,” Derek said about their shared aesthetic, adding they chose practical pieces to complement their lifestyle. “It’s a zoo in our house, so it’s important to have nice furniture, but also durable furniture.”

This area rug creates a clear division between the Houghs’ dining, living, and kitchen spaces without compromising their open floor plan. It sits beneath their sofa, coffee table, and lounge chairs, creating an inviting sitting area.

It’s hand-knotted and crafted from wool, then yarn-dyed to ensure a saturated color that won’t fade over time. The Houghs opted for the flax hue, which adds a subtle pop of red to their otherwise neutral color palette, but shoppers can snag the rug in a variety of colors and sizes, including gray, blue, and taupe.

The Houghs also got this L-shaped sectional that offers ample seating for guests and furry friends. “The performance fabric was so necessary for us to have because we come home and we’re like, oh our couches are not going to be destroyed right off the bat, because it actually is durable,” Hayley shared of their sofa, which is covered in the brand’s ivory performance weave fabric.

The modular sofa comes with a left and right loveseat and a connecting corner piece, which are secured with hidden steel connectors to prevent gaps. Its cushions are supported by steel springs to prevent sagging, and lumbar cushions are included for added comfort.

At-home date nights are now centered around this oversized dining table, Hayley shares. They styled the extendable dining table with six upholstered dining chairs and a matching dining bench, so they’re dinner party-ready at a moment’s notice. The piece is crafted from kiln-dried Sungkai wood, a process that prevents cracking and warping over time, and has a farmhouse-inspired finish that mimics salvaged wood.

They opted for the dark dusty charcoal color, but the table is also available in lighter stains, including chestnut and seadrift — all on sale now.
