Cardi B, one of the world’s most talked-about rap stars, said in a new YouTube interview that a Turkish manager’s advice set her on the path to dancing long before her chart success.
Speaking on Alex Cooper’s “Call Me Daddy,” she recalled being fired from a supermarket near the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) and then talking to one of the store’s managers, who was Turkish.
According to her account, he told her: “You don’t even need this job … You should go across the street. I know the people there.”
First steps and nerves
Cardi B said she was scared of the idea and did not really know what a dance club was as she moved from high school into college life. She recalled the manager reassuring her that “it’s nothing crazy,” and added, “I was very nervous.”

Life in spotlight keeps moving
The rapper has stayed in the headlines with a notable weight loss that, she said, brought her look closer to the early days of her career. After separating from Offset, the father of her three children, she began a relationship with NFL star Stefon Diggs. A few days ago, she announced she is pregnant with a fourth child.
Hits that powered her rise
Before and after that turning point, Cardi B’s music has dominated playlists with tracks such as “I Like It,” “WAP,” “Drip,” and “Please Me,” helping her move from the Bronx to global fame.
