“Don’t blame me, I was just doing my job.”
As Lala Kent continues her “soft” era, Scheana Shay appears to be kicking off her era of damage control.
In the wake of last week’s Vanderpump Rules Season 11 finale, the “Good As Gold” singer is attempting to set the record straight on what happened before viewers saw some of the cast break the fourth wall as cameras were rolling.
For those who didn’t catch last week’s finale, the episode ended with Tom Sandoval trying (once again) to have a conversation with his ex-girlfriend Ariana Madix on-camera, and Ariana sternly telling executive producer Jeremiah Smith that said-conversation wasn’t going to happen.
EP Jeremiah’s ‘VPR’ debut…
Annoyed by yet another Sandoval ambush, Ariana went on to leave the party the cast was attending in San Francisco, along with two of her friends and her boyfriend Daniel Wai. After Ariana left, Sandoval and Scheana proceeded to throw some shade at Ariana for her behavior, but their comments were largely overshadowed by Lala’s long-winded monologue on Ariana’s unwillingness to speak with Sandoval on-camera, claiming Ariana basically wasn’t doing her job.
“Which job is that? You’re gonna have to be more specific…”
In the wake of the finale, both Lala and Scheana have received a lot of backlash from viewers of the show regarding the comments that were made; however, on the May 10 episode of her Scheananigans podcast, Scheana told listeners that those who participated in breaking the fourth wall were simply doing what they were told.
“[Our producer] Jeremiah said, ‘Let it all out. Whatever you wanna say. Go for it,’” Scheana told her podcast guests, comedian Matt Rogers and Janet Caperna of The Valley, according to TooFab.
“You don’t have to ask me twice, Jer.”
When asked by Matt if she believed Jeremiah encouraged the cast to break the fourth wall because he was “frustrated” with Ariana during filming, Scheana claimed the executive producer “was very frustrated that day.”
“To get walked out on, it was, it was a slap in the face to everyone,” Scheana said, before going on to flip flop, as she always does admit that she now sees the other side of things.
“In hindsight, watching it back, I’m like, ‘I understand. That was your truth. In that moment, you were living your real, authentic life and you’re not really going to talk to him,’” Scheana said of Ariana’s decision to not interact with Sandoval.
While Scheana claims to understand why Ariana left the party, she said it still felt like a betrayal to the rest of the cast at the time.
“Sorry not sorry.”
“For the rest of us, it felt like in that moment, like, ‘F**k all of your jobs, f**k making the end of this show. I’m gonna do what I wanna do because I set my boundary. Peace out,’” she explained, adding that she was also bothered when Sandoval revealed that Ariana “talks s**t” about the rest of the cast. “ … It was just like, ‘What the f**k?’”
Scheana admitted that “people can get in [her] head very easily,” seemingly defending her strong reaction to Sandoval’s claims in that moment.
“To hear that about someone who I’ve cared about for so long, like, ‘Maybe she doesn’t feel that way about me,’” Scheana said of her friendship with Ariana, to which Janet went on to reassure Scheana that Ariana loves her and “talks the least s**t” out of everyone in the group.
“As a self-proclaimed s**t talker, I know what I’m talking about.”
As The Ashley previously told you, production on Season 12 of ‘Vanderpump Rules’ has been paused to reportedly give the cast a “break,” and hopefully, result in better storylines for the upcoming season. Now that the fourth wall has been broken, Scheana said the show may even work better moving forward, as Ariana can acknowledge on-camera that she will not be filming with Sandoval–- something she wasn’t able to do openly in Season 11.
“…this is always an option, too, Ariana.”
“But the way this last season worked, it was, ‘This is an ensemble show about a group of friends. So if y’all aren’t filming together then there is no show. We’ll wrap it up, the season will end early and move on with your lives, ‘Vanderpump Rules is done,’” she claimed. “None of us were willing to do that.”
“I have a child and an unemployed husband to support…I NEED that check.”
Despite riding hard for Sandoval on more than one occasion in Season 11, Scheana also revealed on her podcast that, as of right now, she doesn’t speak to Sandoval or Ariana “that much.”
