In the most recent episode of the Bootleg Kev podcast, well-known West Coast musician Jason Martin—formerly known as Problem—reveals Kendrick Lamar’s quick and calculated response to Drake’s diss hit “Family Matters”
In an effort to promote his next collaborative album with DJ Quik, Jason gave Bootleg Kev unique information about Kendrick’s initial reaction to the diss track when it was released back in May.
Problem shared:
I’m giving you some real insight. You’re hearing this first, Drake dropped ‘Family Matters,’ and I texted Kendrick, like, ‘This ain’t it. Man, it’s time to step on his head.’ He replied, ‘Say less.’

Problem continued to reveal the behind-the-scenes story:
I thought it wasn’t anything serious. I went to the bathroom and when I came back, the song ‘Meet the Grahams’ was already uploaded. I was like, ‘Wait, wait, wait!’
“Meet The Grahams” is Kendrick’s direct response to Drake’s “Family Matters.”
In this track, the Pulitzer Prize winner addresses Drake’s immediate family members individually over an eerie production.
The song was released within the same hour as “Family Matters” to shift the focus away from the Drake diss track.
Reflecting on Kendrick’s strategic move, Problem recounted their conversation via text:
I texted him (Kendrick), ‘You already dropped the song?!’ He responded, ‘I’ve been waiting for this guy to drop something.’ Drake didn’t even know what he was in for. He shot a video and everything. Sometimes, you just need to know what to do and what not to do.

In further news, Kendrick Lamar is set to perform a special concert at the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles on June 19th to commemorate Juneteenth.
