Selena Gomez says it is ‘distasteful to talk about money’ as she reacts to being worth $1.3 BILLION

Selena Gomez recently expressed her views on discussing wealth, stating that she finds it “distasteful to talk about money.” The 32-year-old Rare Beauty mogul shared her thoughts during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, where she reflected on her brand’s success in light of her billionaire status.

“I’m very grateful,” she said on Monday evening. “I personally think it’s distasteful to talk about money, but I really am giving all the credit to the people who buy the products.” Gomez’s comments highlight her appreciation for her fans and their role in her achievements.

She added, ‘They’re the ones that made this dream of mine come true. So I’m really, really honored and just happy.’

On September 6, Bloomberg reported that the multihyphenate is worth over $1.3 billion, putting her on their billionaires index for the first time.

Since launching Rare Beauty in September 2020, it has skyrocketed in popularity with influencers and Gen-Z and is a ‘vast bulk of Gomez’s wealth,’ per the outlet.

Selena Gomez’s impressive wealth stems not only from her successful music career as a Grammy-winning artist but also from her acting roles in projects like Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building. Additionally, she enjoys considerable success through frequent brand partnerships and endorsements.

According to data, approximately 81% of Gomez’s income comes from her stake in her beauty brand, Rare Beauty. Endorsements account for 6.9% of her wealth, while touring contributes 4.8%.

Earlier this year, Time reported that Rare Beauty is a top seller at Sephora, consistently climbing sales rankings year after year. In May, Selena addressed rumors that she planned to sell her makeup empire upon reaching a $2 billion net worth, stating, “I don’t have any plans on that, genuinely.” She added, “I have this weird thing in my head where if I focus on the numbers, I’ll lose whatever it is that made Rare Beauty, Rare Beauty. I never wanted it to be about making a lot of money and that’s it.”

Her comments coincided with an announcement from Rare Beauty on X about the return of the “Make A Rare Impact” fundraiser in honor of World Mental Health Day on October 10. According to the post, Sephora will donate 100% of Rare Beauty sales worldwide, aiming to raise $100 million to expand youth mental health services globally. “Let’s make a difference together! Shop online or in-store on 10/10 at Sephora for 24 hours only,” the announcement read.

When launching Rare Beauty four years ago, Selena Gomez expressed her excitement about entering the beauty industry and her commitment to empowering customers. She aimed to create beauty products that not only feel great but also celebrate the uniqueness of each individual.

Her vision was clear: “To release beauty products that not only feel great, but also celebrate what makes each of us rare. These products aren’t about being someone else; it’s about being who you are, whether that’s rocking a full face of bold makeup or barely any makeup at all.”

Rare Beauty has gained popularity for its viral liquid blush and lip gloss offerings. The brand’s products are accessible, with prices ranging from $3 for a lotion pump to $299 for a liquid blush collector’s set, catering to a wide audience while promoting confidence and self-expression.
