SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — No, Aaron Rodgers is not headed to coach football at a Poway high school, contrary to what a recent social media post said.
In an Instagram post on Monday, the football team at Del Norte High School announced the NFL quarterback would be joining their coaching staff in some unnamed capacity, receiving dozens of excited comments from members of the school’s community.
“Everyone give him a big welcome we are honored to have him and look forward to the continued elevation of our program,” head coach Nick Barnett said in the post.
However, the athletics director Amanda Waters confirmed to FOX 5/KUSI that the announcement was indeed an April Fool’s joke by the head coach, apparently riffing off the other odd career move — a shift into politics — the NFL quarterback had been associated with in recent weeks.
Rodgers is still signed with the New York Jets through the end of the of the 2024 season. He inked the two-year, $75 million contract with the team last year.
While they will not be welcoming Rodgers, Del Norte already has a few former NFL players on its football coaching staff, including Barnett who played with the Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills and the Washington Commanders.
