Meghan Markle holds the reins when it comes to any potential return to the UK, with insiders claiming she “could never be forced” and will have the “final say” over Prince Harry’s decisions.
The Duke and Duchess of Sus𝓈ℯ𝓍, who famously stepped down from royal duties and relocated to Montecito, California, have experienced a tumultuous relationship with the British Royal Family, particularly after explosive revelations in interviews and Harry’s tell-all memoir, Spare.
Despite Harry’s apparent desire to heal the family divide, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams insists that Meghan’s preferences will dominate their decision-making process.
In a candid chat with The Sun, Fitzwilliams stated: “Meghan has the say.”

He elaborated on Harry’s image as a dedicated family man, saying he prioritises his family above all else. Fitzwilliams added: “If Meghan didn’t want to come she could never be forced to. It would be extremely unlikely Harry would come over with the kids without Meghan.”
Prince Harry is set to grace the UK with his presence next month to mark a decade of the Invictus Games in May, but it appears Meghan Markle may give the trip a miss.
Insiders suggest the Duchess of Sus𝓈ℯ𝓍 is steering clear of British soil over safety concerns and to avoid the inevitable ‘drama’ that her presence might spark within the Royal Family, particularly with The Princess of Wales.
Since stepping back as senior royals in 2020, Meghan has made only sporadic visits to the UK, such as for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral last year. Notably absent was her presence at King Charles III’s coronation, which Prince Harry attended solo.
