As royal admirers like myself have already started counting down the days to Prince Louis’s 6th birthday (which takes place on April 23), fans really, really want to know what Kate Middleton has planned for her youngest child’s special day. While the Princess of Wales undergoes treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer, it’s hard not to wonder if the birthday festivities will differ from years past.
Despite revealing her cancer diagnosis in an emotional video message back in March, it seems very likely that Princess Catherine will do her best to make Prince Louis’s 6th birthday as special as possible. According to a report by The Sun, it’s been speculated that the 42-year-old royal will try to make a celebratory birthday cake for her son, much like she has done in previous years.

Back in 2019, Princess Catherine appeared on Mary Berry’s A Berry Royal Christmas special and revealed that she “loves” making her children’s birthday cakes from—get this—scratch, which became a household tradition for the Wales fam. “I love making the cake. It’s become a bit of a tradition that I stay up ’til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much,” she said at the time. “But I love it.”
As for the royal birthday portrait? In the past, Princess Catherine has notably taken a birthday portrait of her three children, which has then been released on social media by the British royal family in the hours leading up to the big day.
Following the photo editing debacle, The Sunday Times reported last month that the Prince and Princess of Wales have debated continuing the tradition in honor of Prince Louis’s 6th birthday. “They [the Prince and Princess of Wales] appreciate the public’s love and affection for their children and know there is a public appetite to see them on their birthdays,” an insider told the outlet.
