Usher was one proud dad as he honored his oldest son on stage on Sunday.
While performing at his Las Vegas residency, the “Yeah!” singer, 45, took a moment to recognize son Usher “Cinco” V on his 16th birthday.
“This is a special night to me because my firstborn was born tonight. It’s Cinco’s birthday and I dedicated this performance to him which is why I was going so hard,” he told a cheering crowd in a video he shared in an Instagram post Sunday.
“Happy super sixteen to my firstborn @cincoye we celebrating U in ATL & Vegas,” he captioned the post.
The dad also shared a FaceTime between the two where he got to be the first to wish him a happy birthday.
“I want to be the first to say happy birthday to you,” he told his son, as they shared a laugh and exchanged “I love yous” over the call.
Usher’s 4 Kids: All About Usher V, Naviyd, Sovereign and Sire
Usher shares Naviyd and Usher V with ex-wife Tameka Foster, and Sire and Sovereign with girlfriend Jenn Goicoechea.
When it comes to spending time with his older boys and the younger pair, Usher recently said it takes “dedication.”
“I try my hardest to base my schedule around the time that they’re not in school,” he explained. “My youngest, the 1 and 2-year-olds, they’re here [in Las Vegas], while my two boys are now less interested in spending time with me, oddly.”
Laughing, he joked, “unless I’m taking them to a concert or paying for something they want.”
In November 2022, Usher shared how his oldest boys feel about his global fame. He noted that Usher V prefers to go by his nickname to separate himself from his dad.
“I have one son, Cinco, who does not like to be called Usher, who tries to get away from it,” he told Tamron Hall. “Then another son, Naviyd, who really loves entertainment.”
“Not only does he watch my show, but he gives me critiques,” he said of his second son.
“He’s like, ‘You missed this thing. you didn’t do this thing.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah that’s the point. It’s not supposed to be the same every night,'” the musician added.
Usher said he doesn’t mind the comments. “If it’s inspiration for him, then great. And if it’s making him feel compelled to be creative, then great.”
