Prince Louis is about to have a very big day tomorrow as he turns 6 years old, and sources close to the royals say that Kate Middleton will continue one of the family’s most charming traditions. According to The Independent, the Princess of Wales is set to bake a cake and start the birthday celebrations right at the stroke of midnight, as she’s done in years past for her kids.
“I love making the cake,” she said back in 2019 during an appearance with Prince William on the BBC’s A Berry Royal Christmas with Mary Berry, who fans may know from her tenure on The Great British Bake Off, which she co-judged until 2016.
“It’s become a bit of a tradition that I stay up ‘til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing, and I make far too much,” Kate added. “But I love it.”

Another tradition that royal fans can expect is the unveiling of a new portrait to commemorate Louis’s birthday. In the past, Kate has taken the photos herself, a reflection of her love of photography, but in the wake of recent scandals surrounding the royals and image editing, there may be some changes to this year’s release. While there’s no news yet on what snapshot the family will share with the world, any image is sure to come under major scrutiny.
“Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” she said when the public noticed some errors in this year’s Mother’s Day photo. “I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.”

Louis’s siblings may also get in on the action in the kitchen. In her conversation with Berry, Kate explained that her older children, Charlotte and George, are no strangers to the world of culinary arts and love to help out.
“I’ve done that with George and Charlotte — making pizza dough,” Kate shared. “They love it because they can get their hands messy.”
After some time at Anmer Hall for Kate’s recovery and the Easter holiday, the Cambridges are back at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.
