Shannon Sharpe Takes Aim at New Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson: ‘Beat the Brakes Off Him!’
Former Baltimore Ravens tight end Shannon Sharpe is not a fan of new Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson. … especially now that Russ has suggested that his presence as a Black quarterback in the NFL has been pivotal to the evolution of the game.
“For me to be able to go to back-to-back Super Bowls, and win one of them, I think opened up a lot of doors,” Wilson said in an interview with ESSENCE. “Now you see guys like Patrick Mahomes who won it; it’s really just us so far, but there’s more to come.”
Sure, but …
“So what role did Doug Williams play? The first African-American quarterback to actually get to and win the Super Bowl and win MVP,” Sharpe said on the Nightcap Podcast. “So what about Shack Harris? What about Joe Gilliam? So what did Marlin Briscoe did? Jack Harry? Steve McNair?

“They opened no doors? Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick? It was you?”
Wilson has tried to backtrack and clarify, and as we have suggested, he’s too astute not to know the history, just as Sharpe knows it.
Nevertheless, now that Wilson is with the Steelers organization, there is a target on his back … and Sharpe is slinging the arrows.
“I wish him the best in Pittsburgh, except when they play the Ravens, and if they play (Wilson’s last team) the Broncos,” “I want the Ravens to beat the brakes off of them twice. And if they play the Broncos, I want the Broncos to win.”

Well, the Steelers WILL play the Broncos this season, and of course the Ravens twice as division opponents. So we’ve got at least three games for Sharpe to take aim at the Pittsburgh Steelers new QB in 2024.
