Post Malone was reportedly added to Lil Wayne’s long awaited album, Tha Carter V,the night before it was released. But when the 23-track project arrived on Thursday night (September 27), Post’s name was noticeably absent.
Drake, who was also rumored to be on the album, didn’t make the final cut either. Both artists were supposed to appear on the “What About Me” track, according to Johnny Yukon who co-wrote the song.
“The initial idea was to get Drake on it,” Yukon said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “That was something [Lil Wayne] said to me that night [he recorded his vocals]… Then there were emails back and forth—‘They think Drake’s going to get on it.’”
“The last thing we heard about it, around a year and a half ago, while we were sending the song back and forth, making edits …. at that point, the emails were like, ‘Drake’s gonna cut to it’ […] I don’t know what happened. We didn’t find out that Drake was officially not going to be on it until this week.”
After finding out Drake wasn’t going to be on the song, Wayne started hunting for another artist to take his place and that’s when they decided on Posty.
“There is a version [of ‘What About Me’] that Post cut literally this week,” Yukon confirmed. “[But] something happened, I don’t know what. Something got delivered wrong. That all happened last night.”
Despite the hiccups, Tha C5was delivered as promised on Weezy’s 36th birthday and featured Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, the late XXXTENTACION and more. [apple_news_ad type=”any”]
