Deepika Padukone slammed for ‘playing safe’ at MET GALA 2019; Trolls say, “Ranveer Singh should’ve gone along”

Deepika Padukone walked the red carpet for the MET GALA 2019, earlier today. While there have been people who have been praising her sartorial choices, there have been many more who have been slamming her for ‘playing safe’ and not going outrageous with her outfit. She has been trolled black and blue in the comments section.

Deepika wore Zac Posen custom gown of pink lurex Jacquard, embellished with 3D printed pieces meant to resemble embroidery for Met Gala today, carrying a much like Audrey Hepburn hairdo with a headband to complete the theme-based look. There is no doubt that Deepika is looking gorgeous, but the problem is that at MET GALA, celebs experiment with the wildest of creations. It’s not Cannes Film Festival to come up dolled up looking just beautiful. At the MET GALA fans expect to see the wildest of creations come to the fore.

Priyanka Chopra’s look from the MET GALA went on to become a goldmine for memes, but she was praised for pushing her boundaries and trying something innovative. Deepika’s outfit was nothing innovative and looked super simple, which is what fans didn’t praise.

While most of the trolls are calling out Deepika for playing safe, they are a few who pointed out the obvious – she should’ve gone with hubby Ranveer Singh. Yes, if Ranveer was with her, his quirky and bizarre dressing sense would have rubbed on slightly on Deepika as well.

The theme of the Met’s 2019 Costume Exhibition is “Camp: Notes on Fashion”. The theme comes with its exaggerated plethora of costumes that put on an exhibition by the global stars who attend the gala. The exhibit is inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay that defines camp as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.”

Deepika, your outfit was barely any exaggeration. Ranveer does exaggeration during movie promotions itself. If you had taken him along, he surely would have made everyone stand up and notice the limits of exaggeration.
