Tata Martino has clarified whether Inter Miami would sign Angel Di Maria this summer, after continuous speculation over the Benfica attacker.
Di Maria, 36, is one of the most accomplished players of the last 15 years, having won the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina alongside Lionel Messi, as well as seven league titles with PSG and Real Madrid.
A UEFA Champions League winner as well, Di Maria is set to depart Benfica at the end of this season after a productive year back in Portugal, with Inter Miami one of the clubs rumored with a move for the Argentine international.
However, Martino has now had his say on if the Herons will sign Di Maria.
Marino shuts down Inter Miami’s interest in signing Di Maria
Speaking to Marca, the Inter Miami manager categorically shot down any hope of the Herons signing Di Maria, with Martino stating that the Florida franchise don’t have the means to bring in the attacking midfielder.
With Inter Miami having all three Designated Players filled, it would be hard to convince a player of Di Maria’s caliber to join up with Messi and company, especially with other teams interested in the 36-year-old.
Maritno said when asked if Inter Miami will move for Di Maria: “I echo everything that is said and commented on. I repeat once again, there is no need for me to talk about the qualities that Angel has.
“But, honestly, and beyond the fact that there are almost two months to go before the transfer window reopens, I’m struggling to find a way for Inter Miami to sign him. I can’t think of any, so I don’t have much more to say.”
Inter Miami need to be sensible with transfers this summer
Inter Miami’s newfound reputation means transfer links to superstar attackers like Di Maria is hardly a surprise, yet the Herons need to ensure they are being sensible with who they move in for this summer.
Defense is clearly an area of the pitch where Inter Miami could actually benefit from another big name joining the roster, with Sergio Ramos still rumored with a move to MLS and to Florida.
Indeed, as great as Di Maira is, Inter Miami need to be wise with who they sign this summer, and the 36-year-old attacker is simply not what the Herons are looking for in this moment in time.
