0 Cent has shut down the speculation that he and filmmaker Tyler Perry are business rivals—and his post has gone viral.
The rapper is no stranger to expanding his business empire and now he’s taking his production company, G-Unit Film & Television Inc., to the next level.
On April 18, 50 Cent—whose given name is Curtis Jackson III—officially announced the launch of his G-Unit Film Studio in Shreveport, Louisiana. He wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Excited to announce the expansion of G-Unit Film & Television through the launch of my G-Unit Studios right here in Shreveport #allroadsleadtoshreveport.”
Now, people are comparing his expanding empire to Perry’s career, who owns a 330-acre studio located in Georgia. However, 50 Cent has been quick to shut down these rumors.
Newsweek emailed spokespeople for 50 Cent and Perry for comment on Wednesday.
Taking to his Instagram and X account, the hip-hop mogul shared a screenshot of an article from The Root titled “50 Cent Preparing to Be a Tyler Perry Rival?”
“Yes [three clap emojis] I’m doing great but you’re getting it f***** up, if you think me and Tyler will be at odds at any point. He’s helping me, already going out of his way to aid my progress. So in the nicest way [face with raised eyebrow emoji] cut the s***!” he posted on Monday.
At the time of writing, the post on X had been viewed 364,500 times. On Instagram, it had been liked 94,529 times.
People took to the rapper’s post on X to share their support as well as criticize the fact the men were being compared.
“That’s what they want.. they want us fighting each other,” one person commented.
“Thats how it is, gotta pit people against each other,” said another.
A third added: “People always making it seem like dudes are against everyone else when most good people want to see others succeed.”
While the article’s headline implies a rivalry between the two men, in the story, it reads: “It may look like 50 Cent is planning to be Tyler Perry’s biggest rival, but we believe he has only taken inspiration from him.”
According to The Root, the rapper’s business relationship with Shreveport began in November 2023, when the city’s council agreed to allow 50 Cent to lease Millennium Movie Studio as a base for his company. Now he has introduced a “three-phase plan” that will help him grow his entertainment empire while also investing in the local community.
The hip-hop mogul is no stranger to sharing his thoughts online, having previously sparked both criticism and praise over his comments on Donald Trump’s recent conviction in a high-profile criminal trial.
On June 2, 50 Cent shared a screenshot of an article to X. The headline read: “BREAKING: Trump campaign has received over $200 million in total donations since the guilty verdict in New York.”
Starting his caption with a grinning squinting face emoji, the hip-hop star wrote: “SMH don’t worry the world’s almost over just enjoy the moment and be happy.”
At the time, people such as the Osbourne family—made up of Ozzy, Sharon, Kelly and Jack—and Chelsea Handler questioned whether he was endorsing Trump or being sarcastic in the post.
To date, 50 Cent has not publicly endorsed a candidate for the current election cycle.
