Columbia, TN mayor Chaz Molder spoke out about the “Try That in a Small Town” video after Aldean’s been accused of promoting gun violence and racism
After releasing the music video “Try That in a Small Town”, Jason Aldean was accused by social media users of promoting gun violence and racism.
The country music star responded to the controversy via Twitter, declaring the allegations “not only baseless but dangerous.” Several celebrities on both sides of the aisle have commented on the situation, as well as Chaz Molder, the mayor of the Tennessee town where the video was filmed.
“Like many other small towns across America, Columbia, Tennessee is focused on bringing people together,” Molder told FOX 17 News on Wednesday. “I’ve never heard this song before today, but now I’ve seen the video.”
The mayor continued: “I respect the lyrical freedom of the artist and the fans who support him, but I hope that the next music video is set in the heart of our historic city will convey a more positive message.”
Molder also told the outlet that perhaps Eric Church, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood or Dolly Parton “will be next to record a video in our small town; and they can highlight peace, love and all the things that are great about Columbia, Tennessee.”
