The feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has been maintained well beyond when they dropped their final records in May, but this week fans made an interesting discovery. When someone asks Siri to play Certified Lover Boy on Spotify, it responds by playing “Not Like Us.”
HipHopDX‘s Jeremy Hecht revealed the interesting tidbit in a video this past Wednesday (July 10). As fans saw the video and tried it out for themselves, they realized that it was happening to them as well. Eventually, they all concluded that this was happening because Siri utilizes lyrics, along with albums and titles, to play what was requested via a vocal command in case the user does not know the actual song title.
Given the fact “Not Like Us” came out two months ago, in comparison to Drizzy’s 2021 LP, and the song has reached massive heights on the streaming platform, it is safe to assume that it would be prioritized in their algorithms. However, K. Dot also uses the Certified Lover Boy album title in the lyrics, which would make “Not Like Us” even more likely to be the suggested song when a fan says the title.
Regardless of why this happens, this does not bode well for Drake. It is another moment of him being overshadowed, much like earlier this week when the Argentinian national soccer team trolled him with Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” lyrics.
The Toronto superstar bet $300,000 on his home country to defeat the 2022 World Cup champions in the Copa America semifinals, only for them to get shut out 2-0. The Argentina soccer team’s social media account shared a photo of the team hugging with the caption “Not like us, not with us.” They also wrote “Not Like Us” on the graphic itself.
This came just under a week after the Compton rapper finally unleashed the “Not Liks Us” music video, which featured him beating an owl piñata with a stick and staring at an owl in a cage before walking away and leaving it all by itself. K. Dot has been power-walking through his victory lap, and it will be interesting what he does next.
