A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg used a recent visit to Funk Flex at Hot 97 to riff on Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse.
When asked by Flex about Kendrick’s “King of New York” line, Ferg responded, “What’s a king to a Lord?”
Rocky engaged with Flex in a 20-plus-minute conversation about the verse. “That King of New York shit? You smoking crack, you crazy,” Rocky said. “I mean, honestly, though, K.Dot and them niggas, that’s fam. I think hip-hop needs this shit. There’s niggas pissed off just because they wasn’t mentioned.”
“The nigga didn’t say nothing about nobody’s mother… he ain’t want problems,” Rocky went on. “He just said, “These is my niggas, and I’m letting y’all know it’s competition.’ What’s the problem? That man know I’m where he at… Hip-hop is all about the sport. It’s all about the culture.”
Rocky also called Kendrick “one of the most talented of our generation.”
The entire A$AP Mob also took turns freestyling. Ferg’s freestyle included the lines “Rock, wanna know somethin? Sherane got good brain / A couple Harlem niggas had that bitch up in a chicken wing / You Top Dawg? I heard you in the lick of things a Hollywood bully where you at”
“Sherane” is a character Kendrick references frequently on good kid, m.A.A.d city, while Top Dawg is the name of Kendrick’s label/crew.
