The lead single from the singer’s upcoming seventh studio album, 143, was released last Thursday. Despite being hailed as an uplifting feminist anthem, many soon disregarded the song as repetitive, uninspired, and hypocritical.
The Teenage Dream hitmaker was also criticized for the 𝓈ℯ𝓍ualized content of the music video that accompanied the song and for choosing to collaborate with 50-year-old music producer Dr. Luke following his well-publicized court spat with 37-year-old Tick Tock singer Kesha.
Less than a week after the single’s July 11 release, it has crashed down the US iTunes chart. Katy is reportedly “freaking out” and insisting that her team “go back to the drawing board” to prevent her album from meeting the same fate.
