Canelo Alvarez shut down Conor McGregor, who is set to face Dana White and the UFC on September 14 in Las Vegas.
Canelo Alvarez and Conor McGregor are the most prominent figures in their respective sports. Over the years, both superstars have publicly criticized each other in interviews and on social media. With Alvarez set to defend his championships against Edgar Berlanga, a new feud between him and McGregor has started.
Saudi Arabian adviser Turki Alalshikh recently discussed the possibility of a super fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford. Due to the lack of collaborative spirit, Alalshikh announced that he would be backing out from the project. This prompted Conor McGregor to make fun of Alvarez by calling him a cornflake. It didn’t take much time for Alvarez to respond, who saw right through McGregor’s strategy.
What’s happening is that he’s helping Dana White to sell for the UFC, that’s why he’s saying that. But he knows he’s my son.

Alvarez has ruffled some feathers by revealing his fight date of September 14, which coincides with UFC 306. Given that Dana White had spent almost $17 million on the Las Vegas Sphere event, it was both a risky and courageous decision. White is upset about this, but his friend Alalshikh, who is a UFC fan, has expressed his support.

At the T-Mobile Arena, Canelo will defend his unified WBC, WBA, and WBO Super Middleweight world titles against Berlanga, who has yet to taste his first professional defeat. Similarly, at UFC 306, Sean O’Malley will defend his bantamweight belt against Merab Dvalishvili. While it can be a close contest of numbers, McGregor is confident that Noche UFC will dominate Canelo Alvarez’s fight.
The long going rivalry between Conor McGregor and Canelo Alvarez
Conor McGregor and Canelo Alvarez have maintained a verbal feud, highlighted by occasional public exchanges. McGregor, known for his bold challenges, has frequently mentioned the Mexican superstar in interviews, hinting at a possible crossover bout. Alvarez, confident in his boxing abilities, has disregarded these challenges, emphasizing the s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 gap between a seasoned boxer and an MMA fighter.
Last year, McGregor mocked Alvarez by mentioning that he landed more shots at Floyd Mayweather than the Mexican. Both McGregor and Alvarez have fought and lost to Mayweather, but the Irishman claims he did better than Alvarez. The boxing superstar replied by revealing that he could beat McGregor without using one hand. McGregor replied, stating he needed no hands, indicating his kick game from MMA.
The crossover boxing match between McGregor and Mayweather did phenomenal business, earning the second-highest PPV sales in history. Given their success, it will not be unexpected to see McGregor and Alvarez replicate it. While this has not yet occurred, McGregor’s recent injury troubles and inactivity might suggest it will never happen.
