Yet another incredible heavyweight match-up has presented itself after it was revealed that Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang are in talks for a blockbuster showdown.
Former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder was last in action on the Day of Reckoning card in December when he put in a lacklustre performance and was comfortably beaten on points by Joseph Parker.
Zhang then suffered the same fate earlier this month, as he was unable to capitalise on his back-to-back knockout wins over Joe Joyce in 2022, as he lost to Parker, this time by majority decision.
The two huge punchers now look set to do battle with each other according to ESPN, as they both attempt to get back in the win column and once again put themselves in world title contention.
“Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang are in the process of finalizing a deal for a June 1 fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, sources told ESPN. The heavyweight bout will take place on the undercard of the Artur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol undisputed title fight. Two monster punchers.”
The event comes a fortnight after the heavyweight division will crown a first undisputed champion in 25 years, when Tyson Fury goes up against Oleksandr Usyk for all of the belts on May 18.
Wilder vs. Zhang adds another massive fight to what is already set to be a stacked event on June 1, as alongside the Beterbiev-Bivol showdown, Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren are set to collide in a 5 v 5 event pitting Matchroom boxers against Queensberry fighters.
Official confirmation on the June 1 event in Saudi Arabia is expected in the coming weeks.
