It is time to put this dispute to rest.
One of the most appealing aspects of The Boys over the last three seasons has been the show’s ability to surprise fans with each new episode. However, it turned out that the only type of surprise that many fans could tolerate was gore and violence. When it came to deeper character insights, fans were divided down the middle.
While some people are still disappointed that Frenchie and Kimiko’s romance has faded, others just did not expect the twist on Frenchie’s 𝓈ℯ𝓍uality. In any case, the Internet is suddenly swamped with dissatisfied reviews and viewers clamoring for an explanation. Tomer Capone has a fantastic one.
Is Frenchie from The Boys Gay?
Whatever your opinion of Frenchie was prior to season 4, it is likely to remain unchanged. Tomer Capone, who has played the part for many years, wasn’t surprised by the shift. In fact, when chatting with Variety, the actor joked about how he believes he materialized it for his role.
In all seriousness, it was never one or the other for Frenchie, and the actor made sure to draw inspiration from certain pop culture icons, demonstrating the flexibility of his tastes. Capone made it clear from the start of the episode that his portrayal of Frenchie would not lend itself to easy categorization.
“At the end of the day, it’s deeper than that. It’s the writers and the story trying to give you another angle and another peep hole to see this character, where he came from, what his demons are made of. <…> So it’s just another beautiful color to explore in Frenchie’s painting. I loved it,” he explained.
His effort to maintaining the character that way has finally paid off, as Kimiko has given Frenchie permission to have an affair with his infatuation, Colin. While this was a shocking and heartbreaking change of events for all Frenchie and Kimiko shippers, the two men’s relationship might become just as cherished if fans give it a chance.
If you’ve liked Frenchie’s progress, aren’t opposed to the new relationship, and admire what Tomer Capone and the writing team are doing to bring his character’s broken soul to light, check in to the rest of season 4 of The Boys every Thursday on Prime Video.
