Nick Jonas explains how he got the title of ‘National Jiju’.
Ever since their marriage, the American singer has been tagged as the ‘national jiju’, a fond nickname given to him by the Indians. During his latest appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show, Nick shared the reason behind his special nickname and explained its origin. Revealing that after he got married to Priyanka, he became ‘national jiju’, Nick said:
“As you know I am married to Priyanka. When we got married, this hashtag started. I was ‘National Jiju.’ Jiju means elder sister’s husband, so effectively I’m the older brother to India, which is very sweet.”
Meanwhile, Jimmy also played a clip from the Jonas Brothers’ show from the second edition of the Lollapalooza film festival, which took place in January this year in Mumbai. In the video, his elder brother, Kevin was heard introducing him to the crowd as “Jiju, ladies and gentlemen!” This led the crowd to break out into a loud cheer for the American singer.

When paps teased Nick Jonas by calling him ‘jiju’
Nick and Priyanka arrived in India earlier in July 2024 to attend the wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. The couple slipped into traditional outfits for the event. While Priyanka wore a gorgeous yellow-toned lehenga-choli, Nick opted for a pink-coloured bandhgala sherwani. As the two arrived at the venue and posed for the paparazzi, they lovingly cheered for the American singer by calling him ‘jiju, jiju.’
