American Idol star Luke Bryan has thrown fuel on the ongoing joke feud between himself and Blake Shelton, by naming himself the “better farmer”.
Blake owns land in Oklahoma and Luke planted crops during the pandemic in Tennessee, but the ‘One Margarita’ hitmaker has now claimed Blake is “pretending farming,” while speaking to Ty Bentli on Apple Music Country’s The Ty Bentli Show, released on Friday 22 April.
“I mean, he’s just putting out like wild grasses — stuff that literally will grow on Mars,” he continued. “I’m actually planting stuff that human beings can enjoy. I’m not feeding a bunch of rabbits and moles and stuff. Blake’s farming earthworms and stuff.“
In 2020 Luke shared a video on social media that went viral that saw him standing among rows of corn as he stated into the camera: “Little tip for you guys — never get bored during a pandemic and plant four acres of sweet corn”.
Luke grew up working on his father’s peanut farm in Georgia, and he told Ty: “It was literally 15-hour days, breathing dust. It’s crazy because at the time, I mean, I’m 24, 25-years-old, and I remember physically feeling like I had been in a gang fight, played a football game. That’s how hard we were working. It was 24/7 and just working constantly during peanut season.
“I was still gigging. I was still playing concerts on Fridays and Saturday nights. I’d be in the damn peanut mill on a Thursday, and God, I’d have to go drive through the night and sing college shows with peanut dust all in my lungs. It was a wonder. I probably sounded pretty awful back then!”
In 2021 Blake wed girlfriend Gwen Stefani in a private ceremony on 3 July and Luke later revealed that he found out about the nuptials at the same time as the rest of the world.
However he shared that he had already “started my mental wedding gift” and that it would be a box full of “embarrassing items… funny, sarcastic items, so Blake and Gwen can expect my wedding gift with the Luke Bryan touch on it”.
