Jax Taylor Is Filming The Valley Season 2 but Brittany Cartwright ‘Wants Nothing to Do with Him’

Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright are navigating the aftermath of their separation.

Since announcing their separation earlier this year, the former Vanderpump Rules stars — who met in 2015 and got married in 2019 — will continue working together, but a reconciliation doesn’t seem to be in their plans, PEOPLE can confirm.

“Jax will be returning to filming The Valley for season 2 after completing his stint at a mental health facility. It’s been a tough time for him. He had been in treatment for the last 30 days,” a source tells PEOPLE exclusively.

The source adds: “Brittany was supportive of Jax’s decision to seek help for their son’s sake. However, going forward, she’s not interested in having anything to do with him.”

Taylor, 45, and Cartwright, 35, share one child, son Cruz Michael Cauchi, 3. In February, the pair announced their decision to separate. At the time, Cartwright said on their joint podcast When Reality Hits with Jax and Brittany, “Jax and I are taking time apart and I made the decision to move into another home to take some space for the sake of my mental health.”

The news of their split broke ahead of The Valley‘s season 1 premiere earlier in February. At the premiere, Cartwright revealed to PEOPLE that she felt “a little bit of relief” since separating from Taylor, adding that she “needed this space” and it was “best for [their] family.”

When it comes to filming for season 2 of The Valley, the source tells PEOPLE, “At this time, the pair aren’t capable of being in the same room together or being in communication with one another. Brittany has reached her limit and remains strong to do what is best for herself and her son. During this time, she’s received support from her family and friends.”

The insider reveals that much of their drama will be seen on the upcoming season.

“As the new season of The Valley unfolds, a lot of shocking details will come to the surface,” the source notes. “Since nothing has been off-limits, it may end up being the most unpredictable, no-holds-barred seasons to ever appear on reality television yet.”

The source also adds, “There’s two sides to every story and Jax has his views that will be addressed once he’s back. His focus is to be amicable co-parents for the sake of their son.”

A rep for Taylor and Cartwright could not immediately be reached by PEOPLE for comment. A rep for Bravo told PEOPLE they are not able to comment on the details of production.

In season 1 of The Valley, viewers saw Taylor and Cartwright disagree over a number of issues, including trying for a second child.

“As much as I want to have a kid, even I don’t know how me and you can bring another 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢 into this world if we don’t fix these things in our relationship, you know what I mean? Because I don’t want this for our future,” Cartwright said in one episode.

She also felt that her husband was no longer “attracted” to her, while Taylor credited their sports bar, Jax’s Studio City, for being “the one thing that is keeping Brittany and I together.”

“I just feel like I have woken up,” Cartwright said in one confessional after accusing Taylor of putting on a front for the cameras. “Like, I feel so much stronger now. I know I’ll be OK, but I know my worth and I know I do not deserve to be in a relationship like this. What was I thinking staying with him this long?”

Amid their separation, news broke that Taylor had entered a mental health facility. On Aug. 19, it was confirmed that Taylor will soon exit the in-patient treatment center.

“Jax has spent the last 30 days in treatment and will be heading back home later this week,” a representative for The Valley star confirmed to PEOPLE. “It’s been an emotional month for him and he’s most looking forward to spending time with his son.”
