Supernatural star Jensen Ackles has landed his next TV role in an upcoming Prime Video thriller titled Countdown.
Ackles will play LAPD officer Mark Meachum, who joins a secret task force of undercover agents to investigate a suspicious murder (via Deadline).
The 13-episode series will see the force overcome conflicting personal agendas to save the city when a more sinister plot comes to light.
One Chicago veteran Derek Haas will be the executive producer and showrunner on the series, as part of his new overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
“I am thrilled to be working again with Jen Salke and Vernon Sanders and all the excellent people they’ve assembled at Prime Video,” Haas said in a statement.
“I love making shows that keep you on the edge of your seat with non-stop action, drama, surprises, and suspense, and I can’t wait to work with Jensen and for everyone to see Countdown.”
“I had an incredible experience working with the Prime Video team on The Boys and am delighted to be able to continue that relationship on Countdown,” said Ackles.
“I simply cannot wait to partner with Derek and the rest of our Countdown family to bring this story to life.”
Ackles appeared in the third season of Prime Video’s twisted comic book adaptation The Boys as Soldier Boy, a destructive superhero that served as one of the season’s main antagonists.
After revealing himself to be Homelander’s father and getting into a dust-up with The Boys, Soldier Boy was eventually sent back to his cryogenic chamber.
He returned for a cameo in The Boys spinoff Gen V, as Cate’s teenage crush/imaginary boyfriend.
