Brittany Kerr, former NBA cheerleader for the Charlotte Bobcats, made a memorable impression during her audition for American Idol, performing a cover of Joss Stone’s “Spoiled.” The judges—Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson—offered mixed feedback, with Tyler giving her an enthusiastic “yes” before she even sang, while Jackson expressed confidence in her potential. However, Lopez ultimately voted “no,” questioning whether Brittany could last in the competition.
Despite the setback, Brittany advanced to Hollywood with the support of Tyler and Jackson. Lopez later clarified her decision, suggesting Brittany wouldn’t “survive a week” in the competition. Although her journey on Idol was short-lived, Brittany gained something significant from the experience: she met her now-husband, country star Jason Aldean.
Love Amidst Controversy
Following her time on American Idol, Brittany and Jason Aldean faced scrutiny for their public displays of affection while he was still married to his first wife, Jessica Ussery. After some apologies and attempts to reconcile, Aldean and Ussery divorced in 2013. Brittany and Jason married in 2015 and now share two children, son Memphis and daughter Navy.
A Continuing Passion for Music
Despite not progressing far on Idol, Brittany’s love for singing remained strong. She performed a duet of Blake Shelton’s “Lonely Tonight” with Aldean during a karaoke night in 2021. When asked about the possibility of recording a duet with his wife, Aldean praised Brittany, acknowledging her talent as a “really great singer.”
Reflecting on Her Idol Experience
Recently, Brittany reflected on her American Idol journey in an interview with Beach Happy Magazine. She revealed that she auditioned on a whim after the NBA went on strike while dancing for the Charlotte Hornets. Overcoming her fear of public speaking, Brittany described her audition as a “God thing” that ultimately led her to Jason.
In a backstage interview during her Idol journey, Brittany expressed her excitement about going to California for the first time, saying, “When I got my golden ticket, I was extremely thrilled… I’ve never been to California, so that’s great.”
Brittany also credited her cheerleading team for their unwavering support, stating, “The girls on the dance team have been super supportive… It is ultimately based around the Bobcats dance team and not only me.”
Brittany Kerr Aldean’s journey from cheerleader to aspiring singer showcases her resilience and passion for music, proving that even short experiences can lead to significant life changes.
