Serena Williams Celebrates Post-Partum Body and Advocates for Self-Love
Serena Williams has emphasized the importance of “self-love” as she shared a bikini photo celebrating her post-partum body. The tennis legend, 42, posted the heartfelt message on Instagram alongside her six-month-old daughter, Adira Ohanian.
Since retiring from tennis in 2022, Williams has been a strong advocate for body positivity. In her recent post, she wrote, “Loving yourself is essential. I find that I have to remind myself of that self-love through all different stages in my life.”
She expressed pride in her changing body, stating, “Right now I love that my body is not picture perfect. I love that I smell like milk – that milk sustains Adira. I love getting to know a new version of my body. It is a change, but it’s a change that has been well worth it.”
The post has garnered nearly 500,000 likes, resonating with many fans. Williams has openly discussed her struggles with body image, revealing to Vogue in 2020 that she was raised without a positive body image and faced challenges accepting her physique throughout her career.
Married to Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, Williams has two daughters: Alexis Olympia, born in 2017, and Adira. Following Alexis’s birth, she made a remarkable comeback at the French Open, despite undergoing an emergency cesarean and surgery for blood clots.
Additionally, Williams has spoken candidly about her struggles with depression since becoming a mother. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, she reflected, “Honestly, sometimes I think I still have to deal with it. I think people have to talk about it more because it’s almost like the fourth trimester; it’s part of the pregnancy.”
Her powerful message encourages others to embrace themselves and recognize their worth, starting with self-love.
