Despite sitting on the sidelines, Reese is still keen to help the Chicago Sky win.
Angel Reese’s playing season came to a close through injury but that does not mean the Chicago Sky star has given up on basketball for the season as she goes viral for a heated discussion with Teresa Weatherspoon.
It came as she watched her teammates clash with the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, September 15 where they slipped to a 93-88 defeat at the Wintrust Arena despite leading at half-time in the contest.
The 22-year-old is currently sidelined following a season-ending wrist injury that will require surgery in order for her to avoid arthritis but she hasn’t given on trying to get her team to the postseason by picking up a clipboard and pen instead.
She’s now an unofficial member of the coaching staff for the team based in the Windy City and was spotted in an intense conversation with her head coach as they exchanged ideas during the Mercury game.
Reese’s passion for the game was on display for all to see, despite the defeat, as she continues her quest to get a WNBA ring in her rookie year despite no longer being on court to sink rebounds.
She ended her debut season as a professional basketball by averaging 13.6 points per game, 13.1 rebounds per game and 1.9 assist per game as a forward, and was in contention for Rookie of the Year until Caitlin Clark’s sensational since the All-Star break moved her to the clear favorite.
Who do the Sky play next?
The Sky’s defeat, however, leaves their playoff hopes in a fragile position as they’re now level with the Atlanta Dream and Washington Mystics with a .342 record whilst the WNBA postseason commences on September 22.
The three-way tie for the eighth and final WNBA playoffs spot reaches its boiling point on Tuesday, September 17 when the Sky travel to the Dream at the Gateway Center Arena, with tip-off expected at 19:30 ET/16:30 PT.
