The outing comes shortly after the singer was sued by Tempo Music Investments — an investment platform which claims to own a share of the copyright for Bruno Mars’ 2012 single “When I Was Your Man” — for copyright infringement over her 2023 Grammy-winning single, “Flowers.”
The platform claimed in legal docs that the chorus, harmony, melody, chord progressions and lyrics of “Flowers” were “intentionally” taken from the “24K Magic” hitmaker’s song.
Notably, Mars is not named as a plaintiff alongside Tempo Music Investments in the filing.
The outing comes after the “Party in the U.S.A.” singer was sued for copyright infringement over her hit song, “Flowers” this week.
At the 2024 Grammy Awards, the song assisted Cyrus in winning her first Grammy for record of the year and best pop solo performance.
With the song, the “Used to be Young” hitmaker won her first Grammy awards in 2024, defeating Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish to win gold trophies for record of the year and best pop solo performance.
During her record of the year acceptance speech, Cyrus said, “This award is amazing, but I really hope that it doesn’t change anything because my life was beautiful yesterday.”
“Please don’t think that this is important. Not everyone in the world will get a Grammy, but everyone in this world is spectacular.”
