Many people question if Starlight will die in the program, and the Boys’ comics portray her in perilous situations. Both in the comics’ original run and on Amazon Prime Video, The Boys provides Starlight a lot of action, but the big question is whether or not she dies.
The Boys’ protagonist, played by Erin Moriarty, has been in perilous situations throughout all four seasons, with many of them ending with her suffering physical or psychological damage. Fans are increasingly examining the comics to see how this action compares to its source material, especially with Season 4 becoming more intense than ever (just look at the unsettling lobotomy sequence in Episode 3).
Does Starlight Die in The Boys Comics?
Annie January, sometimes known as Starlight, is a superhero who experiences repeated mistreatment and abuse during the comic book run of The Boys.
She finally learnt to advocate for herself after being forced to perform oral 𝓈ℯ𝓍 for The Seven’s male members upon admission and nearly being 𝓈ℯ𝓍ually assaulted by A-Train.
Even if the Prime Video adaptation somewhat downplays her experiences, Erin Moriarty’s interpretation of the character nevertheless subjects her to egregiously cruel and dehumanizing circumstances.
The Deep tries to rape her in Season 1, Episode 1, but she becomes stronger and defends herself against the squad.
She becomes close to Hughie Campbell while filming The Seven. They are unaware of each other’s roles until Annie hurts Hughie severely by admitting she is a superhero.
Hughie is unable to get over viewing Annie’s acts with The Seven until he learns that she was coerced into it, among other hardships they face. After some time, they become engaged, relocate to Scotland, and get married in Hughie’s hometown.
Despite the widespread belief that Starlight will pass away eventually, she survives her horrific events and has a largely happy ending with Hughie.
What Will Happen to Starlight in The Boys Season 5?
While The Boys takes a different path on Prime Video than its comic source material, Hughie and Annie go through similar rocky patches in their relationship. Their decisions to hide who they are at first are ripped almost directly from the pages, although the show takes creative liberty on occasion.
In the most recent episode, “The Boys,” Hughie and the others were manipulated by a shapeshifter who assumed Annie’s form in Season 4. He proposed to her since Hughie was certain it was the real Annie, which led to their marriage—which also occurs in the comics.
Hugh has to demonstrate that he is aware that the shifter is not his girlfriend, which sparks a heated argument. They unwillingly reconcile before all hell breaks free. As the season comes to a close, Homelander is officially on the warpath to find Starlight and other traitors, and the newly elected US President has declared martial law.
There will be a lot more drama in Season 5 after Starlight flew out into the skies in the last episode, escaping her pursuers.
Though it’s not out of the question that Hughie and Annie may reunite in the upcoming season, neither death is certain. Hughie still adores her, so if they can work things out, marriage might still be an option for them.
But their whereabouts are still unknown, and we don’t know where the tale will go from here.
