During a recent performance of “Señorita,” Camila Cabello seemed to be disparaging Sabrina Carpenter by omitting the line “taste,” which is the title of the latter’s most recent song. During the iHeartRadio Music Festival last weekend, Cabello sang her hit song with her ex-boyfriend Shawn Mendes. However, she omitted a line, which gave listeners the impression that she was making fun of Mendes’s ex-partner Carpenter.
Fans speculated that Camila Cabello shaded Sabrina Carpenter during her recent performance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival on Sept. 21.
“You say we’re just friends / But friends don’t know the way you taste,” Cabello sang, according to a TikTok video of the performance.
During Cabello’s performance of “Señorita” the songstress skipped over the lyric “taste” while on stage.
The Fifth Harmony alum covered her lips during the lyric and gave fans a cheeky side eye.
Cabello, 27, threw a cheeky side look from the stage and covered her mouth with her finger rather than singing the word “taste.” Fans have theorized that Carpenter’s song “Taste” is about her previous, long-rumored relationship with Mendes, 26. Fans’ reactions to Cabello’s performance left them divided on which side of the supposed love triangle they supported.
“Is it bad I love both Sabrina and Camila?” one TikTok user penned, while another added, “they’re so messy i love it.”
Cabello’s fans highlighted that the singer chose to skip over the word “taste” which is also the name of one of Sabrina Carpenter’s recent hits.
Carpenter was briefly linked to Cabello’s ex Shawn Mendes, who worked on the 2019 hit song with her.
One fan applauded Cabello’s choice to skip the word “taste” in the song. “CAMILA This is kinda iconic,” they wrote, while a third quipped, “Wait she is SOO [sic] funny for this.”
The Fifth Harmony former member wore a leather miniskirt and matching leather motorbike jacket while performing at the music event in Las Vegas. Around the time they began dating in 2019, Mendes and Cabello worked together and starred in the music video for “Señorita.” Two years later, in November 2021, they confirmed their breakup.
Carpenter and Mendes were photographed together in February 2023.
On a TikTok video of the incident, one of Cabello’s admirers said, “They’re so messy i love it.”
Later, after Cabello and the “Treat You Better” singer were seen kissing at Coachella in April 2023, romance suspicions surfaced. Just two months had passed since Mendes and Carpenter were spotted out and about in Los Angeles when they had their Coachella makeout session. Fans have criticized Cabello before for disparaging Carpenter in recent months; on August 25, the musician posted a TikTok in which she performed her song “June Gloom.”
Cabello and Mendes officially called it quits in November 2021, however, they briefly reconciled in April 2023.
Since late 2023, Carpenter and actor Barry Keoghan have been connected.
With lines like “She’s cool, I heard / Won’t act surprised, I saw the pictures,” the song is apparently about Carpenter and Mendes’ suspected relationship.
Since late 2023, Carpenter has been dating actor Barry Keoghan, 31, despite internet accusations about his purported shade. Carpenter and the “Saltburn” star recently gave rise to split rumors, but according to an exclusive scoop from Page Six, he was seen at the singer’s MTV Music Video Awards rehearsals earlier this month.
