Sabrina Carpenter blasts critics of her lingerie-inspired tour outfits: ‘Don’t come to the show’. Haters are asked, kindly, not to go to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet” tour.
Speaking to Time magazine for a cover story that was published on Wednesday, the “Taste” singer responded to people who were critical of the lingerie-inspired costumes she dons while performing live. The 25-year-old former Disney Channel star responded, “To that, I just say, don’t come to the show, and that’s OK.”
Sabrina Carpenter is clapping back at critics of her onstage outfits.
“Don’t come to the show,” the singer told haters.
She said backlash comes from “the occasional mother that has a strong opinion.”
Carpenter called backlash from “the occasional mother that has a strong opinion on how you should be dressing” an “unfortunate” scenario.
She explained, “Truthfully, the scariest thing in the world is getting up on a stage in front of that many people and having to perform as if it’s nothing.
“If the one thing that helps you do that is the way you feel comfortable dressing, then that’s what you’ve got to do,” she continued.
She defended performing in what makes her “comfortable” in a Time magazine interview.
The actress called performing onstage the “scariest thing in the world.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the songwriter noted that she would have been “way more nervous and intimidated” if she experienced her current level of fame at a younger age.
Now, Carpenter feels “so prepared for these moments.”
The “Girl Meets World” alum released her “Short ‘n Sweet” album in August, with her tour kicking off the following month.
The international tour started in September and wraps in March of next year.
She has performed in a number of Victoria’s Secret ensembles. Carpenter has been showcasing a variety of personalized Victoria’s Secret looks on stage with the assistance of her stylist, Jared Ellner. Each look features over 150,000 meticulously placed crystals.
The brand claims that each ensemble took over 140 hours to construct. For her Time cover, Carpenter also wore a classic Victoria’s Secret corset, briefs, and bow-tied train—an ensemble that was originally worn by Naomi Campbell on the catwalk in 1997.
Carpenter told Time on Wednesday she has “always embraced” femininity.
To the performer, that can mean “corsets and garter belts and fuzzy robes or whatever the f—k.”
The Broadway star called femininity something that she has “always embraced” with her style selections.
“If right now that means corsets and garter belts and fuzzy robes or whatever the f—k, then that’s what that means,” she said.
Carpenter’s international tour is scheduled to end in March 2025.
