In his recent interaction with Jimmy Fallon, Nick Jonas explained to the American audience why he received the tag of ‘National Jiju’ from Indian fans.
In January 2024, when the Jonas Brothers performed at the Lollapalooza music festival in Mumbai, Nick Jonas received a warm welcome from the crowd, who enthusiastically chanted “jiju jiju.” This affectionate nickname stems from his marriage to Priyanka Chopra, making him the unofficial “national jiju” of India. Nick elaborated on this unique title during his recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
While discussing his role as Priyanka’s husband, Nick explained, “As you know, I am married to Priyanka. When we got married, this hashtag started. I was ‘National Jiju.’ Jiju means elder sister’s husband, so effectively I’m the older brother to India.” Fallon even played a clip from the Mumbai concert where Joe and Kevin Jonas introduced Nick as “Jiju,” prompting the crowd to chant in excitement.
Priyanka’s mother, Madhu Chopra, has also praised Nick for his respect and appreciation of Indian culture. She noted, “He is very respectful, appreciates Indian culture, and lets us be as Indian as possible. Priyanka often says that he is a Punjabi.” Madhu revealed that while Nick was prepared for the nickname “Nick jiju,” he didn’t anticipate being dubbed “National jiju.” She shared, “His family is aware of this too; Priyanka had told him. However, he wasn’t expecting National jiju.”
Nick and Priyanka married in 2018 at the stunning Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie, on January 15, 2022, via surrogacy.
