Mustard claims he didn’t know that his beat for Kendrick Lamar would be used for the rapper’s Drake diss, “Not Like Us.”

Mustard says he was unaware that the rapper’s Drake hate song, “Not Like Us,” was made using his rhythm for Kendrick Lamar.

On Wednesday, June 19, the producer from Los Angeles talked to XXL about learning that his song was being used to target Drizzy.

“I made that beat on my manager’s birthday [April 6],” he began. “I sent [Kendrick] maybe three [beats] that day. He just hearted it. I didn’t hear it ’til [the song] came out.”

He also explained where he was when he heard the song for the first time, and how surprised he was to connect the dots.

“When I heard it, I was on the freeway, and I just, like, my manager hit me, like, ‘Mustard on the Beat,’” he recalled. “Like, ‘Text me now.’ I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’ I got another couple texts, and people like, ‘Mustard on the Beat, Mustard on the Beat.’

“These are people I be with all the time, so I’m like, ‘What the fuck is everybody…’ and then I call my manager. I’m like, ‘What did I miss? What’s going on?’ And he’s like, ‘Man, go to YouTube right now. It’s out.’ I’m like, ‘What?’ He’s like, ‘Dot just dropped a song. It’s your beat.’

“I’m like, ‘For real?’ I go, I listen, I’m like, ‘Whoa!’ I started going crazy. I had a fuckin’ Vegas show that night, so I played that shit all the way to the fuckin’ plane, got to Vegas, played it that night. It was fuckin’ crazy, man. That’s some crazy shit.”

“Not Like Us” isn’t the only Mustard song that is set to spice up summer.

Earlier this week, the “Ballin’” artist and Travis Scott offered fans a preview of their upcoming collaboration “Parking Lot.”

The producer uploaded a clip to his Instagram of them working together in the studio, with the track being featured throughout the video.

At the end of the short clip, a graphic flashed up that revealed the release date for the single as Friday (June 21).

The song will be featured on Mustard’s new album Faith of a Mustard Seed, which is set to drop on July 26.

Faith of a Mustard Seed follows 2019’s Perfect 10, which featured the hits “Pure Water” with Migos and the aforementioned “Ballin’” with Roddy Ricch.

Travis Scott and Mustard have worked together several times in the past, most notably on the 2016 single “Whole Lotta Lovin’” which was later certified gold.
