Tyson Fury’s manager provides an update on a potential all-British heavyweight clash with Anthony Joshua

Tyson Fury‘s manager has offered an update on the potential showdown between the former heavyweight champion and Anthony Joshua.

Fury suffered the first defeat of his professional career when he faced Oleksandr Usyk in May, with the Ukrainian claiming a split decision victory in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In doing so Usyk became the first fighter in more two decades to become the undisputed heavyweight champion.

The pair are set to rematch later this year, though undisputed status will no longer be up for grabs.

In May Usyk was controversially stripped of the IBF title, with the sanctioning body elevating Daniel Dubois‘ interim belt ahead of his clash with Joshua later this year.

With both fighters having suffered losses against the Ukrainian, fans have again began to call for Joshua and Fury to meet inside the ring, even if Fury is unable to exact revenge in October.

However, Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown insisted the long-awaited clash will not take place unless Fury can get his win back.

‘I think that we need to get this one out the way,’ Brown told Sky Sports. ‘There’s no collision course if he doesn’t win the next fight. So it’s imperative he beats Usyk.

With the rematch fast approaching, Brown added that Fury is making adjustments to ensure that he gets his hand raised.

‘There’ll be changes, not in management or his team, there’ll be some other stuff that he’ll be looking at training-wise,’ he added.

‘With the closeness of the fight last time, it could have gone either way. Some people will say Usyk was three rounds in front, some people won’t, it’s your opinion on boxing – that’s why we love it.

Spencer Brown insisted it is ‘imperative’ he defeats Usyk in the rematch if a clash with AJ is to materialise

‘But Tyson Fury will be back. He’ll be firing and we’ll see a new, better, improved Tyson Fury.

‘At his age I don’t know how much you can improve but there was very, very little in the fight between them, so let’s back our British guy and I’m sure he will win and then we’re going to talk about the next stage.’
