An unexpected layer helped her transition her outfit

Blake Lively knows the power of an unexpected layer.

The It Ends With Us actor stepped out for multiple events on Friday, and accordingly took a chartreuse lace dress from day-to-night with her styling. As she began the day with an appearance at the NY Food and Wine Festival, she layered a green V-neck cardigan over her cocktail dress, allowing the slouchy sweater to extend down to her thighs. Rolled-up sleeves and a few undone buttons helped transform her dress into a casual, daytime look.

Lively—who famously styles herself—completed her first ensemble with her signature maximalist flourish. A pair of forest green lace-up boots, from Christian Louboutin, stuck out of the sheer hem of her dress. Each of the suede boots flaunted pearl buttons, adding a luxe feel to her look that continued with her stacks of jewelry.

The actor showed off a number of large gold bangles, as well as a smattering of gemstone rings, rounding out her bling with a pair of tortoiseshell drop earrings. Over her shoulder, she slung a metallic quilted bag from Chanel, which added some additional sparkle to her look with a black-and-gold palette.

Later in the day, Lively switched up her look as she headed out to host a Betty BOOze Harvest Happy Hour event. For the occasion, she took off her daytime cardigan, exposing her dress’s daring side cutouts that extended all the way down to her waist. Though she accessorized with the same designer bag, she carried it this time as a clutch. Her bronzed glam remained intact as well, and she wore her blonde hair in a dramatic side part with bouncy curls. Who knew you could revamp your look while changing so little?
